The School of Media & Communication at Western Kentucky University is proud to announce that renowned investigative journalist Anabel Hernández will be the recipient of the 2025 Fleischaker-Greene Award for Courageous International Reporting.
A reception will take place in Jody Richards Hall, second floor foyer on April 15, from 5-6 p.m. The presentation of the award and remarks from Ms. Hernández will be at 6:15 p.m. in Gary Ransdell Hall Auditorium. A book signing will follow the presentation.
The Fleischaker-Greene Award, endowed by donors Jon Fleischaker and Kim Greene of Louisville, recognizes journalists who exhibit extraordinary courage in reporting on international issues.
Hernández, one of Mexico’s leading investigative journalists, has dedicated more than three decades to exposing drug cartels, government corruption, human rights violations and abuses of power. Her work has been featured in numerous international publications, including The Guardian, Le Monde, The New York Times and Deutsche Welle. She is an author of several influential books, including “Narcoland: The Mexican Drug Lords” and “Their Godfathers and A Massacre in Mexico: The True Story Behind the Missing Forty- Three.”
As part of the award tradition, Hernández will visit with WKU classes to discuss investigative journalism and press freedom.
