Emily A. Pride, a WKU senior from Bowling Green, participated in the 88th Annual Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville on May 23. She was named Ms. Congeniality during the festival weekend.
Pride, the daughter of Charley and Julie Pride, was escorted by WKU sophomore Will Pride during the weekend festivities. Eighteen candidates from colleges and universities across Kentucky competed for the crown during the Memorial Day weekend.
The Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival first began in 1931 and is one of Kentucky’s oldest festivals. The queen candidates stay with a host family and attend the various Festival events throughout the weekend.
The Student Activities Office selected Pride as WKU’s queen candidate after a nomination and interview process. To learn more about the Student Activities Office at WKU, visit www.wku.edu/sao.
