WKU Forensics Team members Faith LoPiccolo and Alex Rivera won championships in the National Forensics Association: Performances of Distinction competition.
WKU seniors LoPiccolo and Rivera were awarded Varsity Performances of Highest Distinction in both speech and debate events in a virtual contest hosted by the National Forensics Association (NFA).
In lieu of an in-person tournament, the national organization established committees of Speech and Debate professionals who judged video submissions and virtual debates using video conferencing technology. From June 1 to June 20, event committees carefully reviewed each performance before announcing results.
WKU was one of two schools in the country awarded Performance of Distinction honors in both speech and debate, and the only school to win a Performance of Highest Distinction in both speech and debate. LoPiccolo was named a Performer of Distinction for excellence across multiple events.
Twenty-one schools participated including the University of Texas at Austin, George Mason University, Lafayette College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Results from the National Forensics Association: Performances of Distinction competition are as follows:
- Faith LoPiccolo, a senior from Lexington, Performance of Highest Distinction in Programmed Oral Interpretation, Performance of Distinction in After-Dinner Speaking, Performance of Distinction in Dramatic Interpretation, Performance of Distinction in Prose Interpretation, Performer of Distinction.
- Alex Rivera, a senior from Newton, Kansas, Performance of Highest Distinction in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
