WKU Regents committees approve personnel actions, emeritus status

During committee meetings on Friday (Oct. 22), the WKU Board of Regents’ Academic Affairs Committee approved awarding emeritus status to a number of faculty members in each of the university’s academic colleges. To achieve emeritus status, a faculty member must be recommended by tenured faculty, department chairs/directors, or college deans, have served the university for at least 10 years, and have a distinguished record of achievement and service.
The Regents’ Finance and Budget Committee also approved several customary personnel actions. The approval pertains to personnel actions that took place between May 20, 2021, and September 26, 2021, and includes salary adjustments and position reclassifications.
The committee approvals will be presented to the full Board at its fourth quarterly meeting on Dec. 10.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Robert “Bud” Fischer presented an overview of Academic Affairs at WKU. Fischer outlined the organizational structure of Academic Affairs, defined the relationship between Academic Affairs and other divisions on campus, and shared his goals for the division. Among those goals are improving recruitment and retention, enhancing campus diversity, and promoting and enhancing the research profile of WKU.
Susan Howarth, Executive Vice President for Strategy, Operations, and Finance, provided an update about WKU’s finances. She shared that university revenue is tracking as it was at this time last year and that grants and contracts are slightly higher than they were a year ago.
