Education Living Learning Community


 

The Education Living Learning Community is for first year students with majors in the WKU School of Teacher Education. 

The Education LLC provides a learning community for future teachers to share their passion, learn together, and interact in professional growth activities that develop fellowship and professionalism. 

Students in the LLC enroll in two courses each semester, engage with their LLC Fellow, and benefit from programming tailored to their needs and interests. 

All students majoring in education are welcome: 

  • Elementary 

  • Special Education

  • Middle Grades

  • Secondary

  • All "specials" (music, art, physical education, etc.) 

  • Interdisciplinary early childhood education

Fall Semester

EDU 250    Discover Teaching: Introduction to Teacher Education    3 Hours

Introduction to teaching including knowledge of teaching, ethics, professionalism, dispositions, diversity, and curriculum. Clinical field experiences are required. Students must arrange transportation and meet P-12 eligibility requirements to fulfill required outside field experiences.

ASTR 104    Astronomy of the Solar System    3 Hours

An introductory study of that portion of the physical universe extending beyond the earth from the sun to the outer limits of the solar system, including its relationship to the rest of the universe and to the earth. Topics include phenomena visible from earth, the earth's motions and timekeeping, eclipses, motions of planets and satellites, and the historical development of scientific understanding of the solar system. Comparison of physical properties among the sun, planets, and satellites interrelate the earth and its life forms with the extraterrestrial environment that supported the development and continuation of life on earth. This course contains an integral laboratory that includes planetarium exercises and evening observing sessions using telescopes. Colonnade/Statewide General Education Code E-SL, E-NS | SL, NS

Spring Semester

EDU 260    Classroom Assessment    3 Hours

An introduction to the integrated use of assessment in the classroom context for K-12 student learning, teacher planning, and school improvement.

PSY 310    Educational Psychology: Development and Learning    3 Hours

A required educational psychology course for students seeking teacher certification. Educational psychology is designed to give the student a thorough understanding of the theories and principles of psychology as applied to teaching and learning. The students will demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and application of theories and principles of development, learning, memory, motivation, individual differences, instruction, classroom management, and measurement and evaluation. PSY 310 may not be counted toward the psychology major or minor. Note: A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required if the student does not have an ACT of 21 or higher.

I have felt so happy being involved in such a strong group of people to live with. The constant support and help I have received has made college so much easier. I have never been so comfortable to ask questions and ask for help. The RAs have been amazing as well, especially mine. They are always willing to answer questions or listen.
