Alumni achievement recognitions announced for WKU’s 2025 Homecoming

Three individuals will be recognized for alumni achievement at the Hilltopper Excellence Awards during Homecoming 2025.
Dr. Regis C. Pearson (’15, ’17) will be honored for Young Alumni Achievement, and Phillip W. Bale, M.D. & Kristen T. Bale will receive the designation as Honorary Alumni.
The Hilltopper Excellence Awards, presented by Franklin Bank & Trust, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30 at Knicely Conference Center. The event will include the induction of the 34th class of the WKU Hall of Distinguished Alumni and additional awards that celebrate alumni achievement, philanthropy and service. Young Alumni Achievement – Dr. Regis C. Pearson (’15, ’17)
A native of Greensburg, Ky., CPT Regis C. Pearson, Ph.D., is the Deputy Chief of the Injury Prevention Branch, Defense Centers for Public Health – Aberdeen, located at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Md. Through his daily work and research, Regis is committed to advancing military warfighter readiness through innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration and leadership.
Regis received a direct commission into the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps and joined the scientific staff at Defense Centers for Public Health – Aberdeen in 2023. As Deputy Chief, he leads a team of 14 scientists in conducting epidemiologic investigations and program evaluations focused on musculoskeletal injury prevention. With extensive research featured in peer-reviewed publications, his work supports evidence-based decision-making and contributes directly to improving health, readiness and performance.
From WKU, Regis earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in 2015 and a Master of Science in Kinesiology in 2017, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Physiology from the University of Georgia in 2022.
