Biography

Ed Cohen has deep experience in the US broadcast industry specializing in audience measurement. Over the course of his career, Ed has served as Vice President-Research at Clear Channel Communications (now iHeart Media), Vice President in various roles at Arbitron and later Nielsen, and Vice President-Research and Ratings at Cumulus Media. He has also worked at the National Association of Broadcasters, Birch/Scarborough Research, WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, and at WSPA-FM in Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Ed held faculty roles at Michigan State University and Duquesne University and academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Mass Media from Michigan State, an M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina, and a B.A. in Telecommunication from Michigan State.  He’s presented at many academic and industry conferences, and his Ph.D. dissertation (“A Model of Radio Listeners Choice”) was supported by an NAB grant and won the initial Ken Harwood dissertation award from the Broadcast Education Association.

Since moving to Bowling Green, Ed writes a weekly column on radio and research for Barrett Media (www.barrettmedia.com), a trade press website and serves on the National Association of Broadcaster’s Committee on Local Radio Audience Measurement. He is advisor to WWHR-FM, WKU’s student radio station as well as teaching courses in the Broadcast Communications program.
