Super Saturdays encourages students in grades 1 – 6 who are of high ability or have high interest in a topic to pursue their passions outside the regular classroom. Through a minds-on, hands-on approach to learning, students explore and investigate such areas as math, art, science, history, writing, music, and performance under the thoughtful guidance of experienced teachers and in the company of enthusiastic, like-minded peers. Each year, over 1000 students enjoy the benefits of Super Saturdays.
The Center offers two different three-week sessions of Super Saturdays each year. The first session is offered in the early fall and the second in the winter. Courses are listed by grade levels and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. When registering, you will submit the student’s top three class choices. If the top (#1) choice is filled, they will be placed in the next available class. Students will be in the same class for all three Saturdays.

Western Kentucky University President Timothy C. Caboni announced nationally recognized researcher and bestselling author Dr. Jean Twenge as the speaker for the university’s third annual Presidential Speaker Series event.
Dr. Twenge will deliver a keynote speech, How Changes in Technology Shape Each Generation. In this presentation, based on her widely acclaimed 2023 book Generations, she will reveal the three key forces driving generational change, examine the experiences and outcomes of the six living generations and share groundbreaking survey data that points toward future societal shifts.
Her presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, November 4, in WKU’s Van Meter Auditorium.

This year's speaker is Amanda Belcher (B.A. '10, M.A. '18), Vice President of Human Resources at Sarah Cannon Research Institute, a joint venture of McKesson and HCA. Belcher earned her M.A. in Organizational Communication (2018), B.A. in Communication Studies (2010), and Certificate in Leadership Studies (2009) with a Minor in Spanish from the university.
Belcher will discuss communication practices in professional settings, workplace dynamics, and leadership strategies. She will draw from her experience directing human resources strategy and operations for a healthcare joint venture, where she guides organizational change, advances inclusion and belonging initiatives, and designs leadership development programs for thousands of employees across diverse teams.
The event is free and open to students, faculty, and the public.

Western Kentucky University’s Student Support Services – Disability (SSS-D) and the First-Generation Initiative are proud to announce the upcoming First-Generation Student Leadership Conference, to be held November 14–15, 2025, at WKU’s Bowling Green campus. This year’s theme, “Unlock Your First-Gen Power,” celebrates the strength, resilience, and leadership of first-generation college students through an empowering superhero storytelling lens.
The conference will bring together an anticipated 75 first-generation students from across the region for two transformative days of inspiring keynote speakers, resource fairs featuring campus and community supports, and interactive workshops focused on leadership, academic success, and personal development.
Attendees will journey through four superhero-themed tracks:
- Student Wellness - Tools for mental health, stress management, and self-care
- College Success – Academic strategies, navigating college systems, and campus involvement
- Career & Graduate School Readiness – Resume building, graduate school prep, and professional pathways
- Financial Literacy – Budgeting basics, managing student aid, and planning for financial independence
“This conference is designed to uplift and empower first-generation students,” said Jimmie Martin, Director of Student Support Services – Disability. “By blending resources, mentorship, and community, we want students to see themselves as capable leaders who are ready to unlock their full potential.”
Students who have benefitted from WKU’s first-generation support programs echo the excitement. “Being a first-generation student can feel overwhelming, but WKU’s first-gen community has given me the tools and confidence to thrive. I can’t wait to attend the conference and connect with others who share this journey,” said Maria Lopez, WKU junior and First-Gen Scholar.
As a First-Gen Forward institution, WKU is dedicated to creating and sustaining programming that supports and celebrates first-generation students throughout their educational journeys.

Western Kentucky Physics Olympics is a half-day competition consisting of a pentathlon of challenging problem-solving activities that reward teamwork, creativity, and communication.
