Southcentral Kentuckians have proudly served their nation for generations. To honor that service, veterans and those currently serving, please submit a photo of yourself while serving, or submit for a relative. Click here to submit photo and information online. Spencer Anderson

Service Status: Army Veteran
One of my favorite memories was attending the final class at the jungle operations training course in Panama in the spring of 1999.

Tatiana Barr

My favorite memory is doing weather support for Red Flag Alaska, and seeing the different branches’ fighter jets, with “Thunderstruck” playing in the background.

Bernard Lee "Bobby" Basham, Jr.
Hometown: Brownsville, Kentucky
Service Status: Retired Army and Army Reserve Veteran
Bobby Basham, father of Dr. Sara McCaslin, served during the Vietnam War with the 100th Training Division. He later served in the Army Reserves and attended summer camp every summer at Ft. Knox, KY until he retired in June 2001 with full benefits as a Platoon Sergeant (E7).

Robert Bedard
Hometown: Otisfield, Maine
Service Status: Army Veteran
This photo was taken after three days with barely any sleep into the invasion of Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. Shortly before this photo, we had destroyed and captured all remaining elements of the Iraqi Republican Guard, the sky was blacked out due to the smoke from the oil fires that were burning. 5th Battalion, 18th Infantry, 3rd Armored Division. Stationed Langley AFB, Virginia. I played the National Anthem at many events, including MLB games and a NASCAR race, in front of thousands!

Scott Clarke
Hometown: Bellevue, Michigan
Service Status: Navy Veteran
Stationed USS Virginia (CGN-38), Norfolk, VA. My ship was based in the Mediterranean Sea, so I got to visit many countries in southern Europe, Northern Africa, and the Caribbean Sea. I remember how peaceful the Atlantic Ocean seemed at night. I would often go up on deck and watch the moon, stars, and the glowing jellyfish. I made several lifelong friends on the ship.

Kevin Duff
Hometown: Bowling Green, KY
Service Status: Army and Navy Veteran
In the Army, I was assigned to Drive Lt. General Ray Odierno. In the Navy, I was a Boatswains Mate and handled all the training for Deck Department. One vivid memory from my service, was while we were in the Navy we were off the coast of Somalia. We rescued 18 refugees who were stranded at sea. The youngest was 18 months old.

One of my fondest memories was walking through and securing on post schools and how elementary school students would be in awe of my partner and my position seeing police interacting with students in the hallways and asking questions.

Enlisted in the United States Air Force after 9/11 as an Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist.

One of my favorite memories was after our annual training, when I performed a concert for 1st Platoon with the CO and 1SG front row seats. I sang Self Esteem by The Offspring.

James Logsdon (1887-1951)
Hometown: Munfordville, KY
Service Status: Army Veteran
James Logsdon, grandfather of Dr. Jeremy Logsdon, pictured here at Camp Shelby in 1918, prior to shipping overseas in World War I to serve as a machine gunner with Company C, 109th Machine Gun Battalion of the 28th Division, where he earned the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat.

Lisa Meyers

I loved the 12 months I spend in South Korea taking in the sights and learning the culture. I was there for the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

Donovan Roach

I was stationed primarily at Charleston, South Carolina. A favorite memory was being able to work on site with the Royal Air Force on a training project.

Left, William Henry (Bill) Simmons, age 19, and father of Jean Power. On right, is Bill’s brother, and Jean’s uncle, C.J. Simmons, age 34. Bill was in the Navy and C.J. was in the Army. C.J. trained at Ft. Knox and served under the command of General George S. Patton. Jean remembers her father Bill being very proud of his WWII Navy service and sharing his memories of the Battle of Saipan in the Pacific.

Christy Spurlock

I served in the Finance Corps performing a variety of pay related services. I was stationed in Germany, pictured here with the mayor of Pirmasens. My best memories are of all the wonderful people I served with, and all our travel and adventures, including a “lift” to our destination from an Army helicopter.

Jarae Thurmond
Hometown: Decatur, Georgia
Service Status: Navy Veteran
Stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Really enjoyed and miss the community and camaraderie shared with people from all walks of life to accomplish one shared goal similar to my job now with football at Western Kentucky University. My time in the service allowed me to learn and pass on really amazing life lessons to these young and impressionable student athletes.
